Egypt Alexandria Port, a famous city and port on the western Mediterranean coast of Egypt, Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in 332 B.C. and bears his name. The most famous monuments of Alexandria were the Mouseion, the imperial library, the lighthouse on the island of Pharos, the Caesareum, the Serapeum, and the tomb of Alexander the Great. The Pharos of Alexandria was regarded as one of the wonders of the classical world.
